KAYAK PADDLE

Paddle size is a crucial element to consider to optimize your comfort and efficiency on the water. A general rule to follow is that the paddle should be long enough for you to touch the tip of the blade with your arm extended upwards, in a vertical position (see photo). This ensures that it's adapted to your size and paddling style, allowing you to maximize the power of your strokes while avoiding excessive fatigue. A paddle that's too short can lead to inefficiency in your paddling technique, while one that's too long can lead to premature fatigue. By finding the right size, you can improve your comfort, performance and enjoyment on the water.

For optimal paddling, position your hands on the two distinctive black markings on the paddle, ensuring a balanced grip and even distribution of force.

When holding the paddle above your head with both hands, make sure your arms form a right angle. This ensures the optimum position for efficient paddling and reduces muscle fatigue during your kayaking adventures.

The concave side of the paddle blade (the rounded side) should face you, with your hands spaced about the width of your elbows. During the stroke, one blade remains in the water while the other presents its edge to the air to avoid braking. The inside of the blade should pull the water through. Control the blade angle by turning your right wrist slightly while keeping your left hand fixed on the handle. If your paddle has symmetrical blades, no wrist rotation is necessary.

FOR CANOEING

The size of a canoe paddle is crucial to your comfort and efficiency on the water. A simple rule of thumb is to choose one with a length that allows you to wedge the olive between your chin and nose when standing.

This position ensures optimum range of movement for paddling with ease and power, while avoiding excessive effort and the risk of injury. By finding the right size, you'll be able to enjoy your canoeing outings in complete safety and comfort.

Holding your paddle

Efficient canoe paddling requires perfect coordination between paddlers. It's essential to always paddle on the same, opposite side of your partner, and to maintain perfect synchronization to move forward harmoniously on the water. Make sure you communicate with your partner and coordinate your movements to maintain an even pace and fluid propulsion. By staying in sync and paddling together, you'll maximize your efficiency and speed while getting the most out of your canoeing adventure.
